Laura, our trainee teacher.

(Sent by students from class 4A)
Our trainee teacher´s name is Laura Antón Fernández. She was born in Palencia in 1993, so she's twenty three years old now. Although she lives in Palencia with her parents and her older sister she has visited a lot of countries such as Belgium, USA, UK, Mexico, Canada and Ireland. She has gone to two different schools, La Salle and Villandrando. In the future she would like to work as a teacher in California. She studied her career in the University of Valladolid and also in Manchester, England. She speaks Italian, English, German and Spanish.
She decided to study English just two days before she had to fill in the inscription because she was so good at it and also because her mother was an elementary school teacher. Before coming to our school she had worked as a private teacher and as an elementary school teacher in San Francisco.

Laura monitoring a class

On the one hand, the things she likes the most about teaching are the way we learn, to deal with teenagers and she also finds it funny.
On the other hand, the thing she hates is when the students don´t stop talking and don’t pay attention.
Laura chose this school for her training because she had very good references and also because her mum had studied here when she was younger. She thinks our school is so big and that we have very good and friendly teachers. During her school training she has learnt how to deal with teenagers, some teaching techniques, and the most important thing, teaching requires tonnes of patience. Before coming to our secondary school she preferred teaching in elementary schools, but during this experience she has changed her mind and now she prefers teaching teenagers because she can speak faster.

  1. I think being a teacher has both possitive and negative aspects.
Teachers have a lot of holidays (in Easter, Christmas, summer...) and I also think that it´s a well-paid job and as well the working hours aren´t so bad.
On the other hand, it´s a vocational job and if you don´t like children or teenagers you won´t be able to do it. I think that in order to be a teacher is necessary a lot of patience and renewed yourself every certain time.

  2. In my opinion to be a teacher is a hard work in which you must deal with a variety of different students including the ones who pay attention and the ones who dont care about the class and disturb it constantly. To have this training process is great because you learn how to deal whith this two types of students, you gain experience and you have the oportunity to travel and visit other places. It is a good job because you have the duty to teach the children that will grow up and become adults in the future and will be part of the future society so to teach them everything they must know is for some people a hard responsibilty and for others a great job. 3. I think this job is a very difficult one because you need lots of patience, you have to deal with many different children and sometimes their behaviour isn´t very good but also I think that if you like it it is a very beautiful one because you can teach the children things that in the future they may teach to other people and also because everyday you learn something new about how to treat kids or teenagers and you gain experience daily.

  4. I think that this job it´s a very interested one because you teach people not only a subject but also values and principles. I recognize that has its difficult parts, I suppose it´s very frustrating that students don´t listen to you but I think that all the jobs have a negative part. But being a teacher give you experiencies like travel to other places, also you lear new things every days and meet similar people to you. To sump up its a profession that must to like you because otherwise is going to finish with you.

  5. I think that, to do this job you must be patient and constant, specially if you work with teenager. The teenagers are sometimes agressive and a bit irritable. Other thing is if they don´t have a really good marks, in some cases, they could be annoyed with the teacher. But all of us appreciate the teacher´s work, and the opportunities given us when we have a teacher that has travelled so much, and have a good level of pronuntiation. We learn a lot!

  6. Wow, that´s amazing! I didn´t know that she had visited so many countries. Her pronunciation was awesome, I know why now. This job is difficult, you have to deal with a lot of different teenagers´personalities. It´s true that we have to be more silence in class and we must pay more attention during the lessons, but I´m sure that Laura will do her work very well. I hope see her teaching in a future.
Good luck in the teachers and schools world Laura!!
